Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery - PRN, Rotating - Dell Seton Medical Center - Austin, TX

What You Will Do:

APP will be working caring for inpatient neurosurgical patients. Job responsibilities include rounding on inpatients, seeing new consults, and collaborating with on-call MD. Good communication skills and ability to work/adapt in a busy neurosurgical practice. Neurosurgery or related experience preferred (related experience includes spine, trauma, neurology, etc, neuro experience as a nurse such as neuro/trauma ICU, etc). Surgical first assisting experience preferred, but not required. Acute Care Certification or Clinical Nurse Specialist with acute care training/educational component required. Main site of practice will be Dell Seton Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma Center), but will also practice within other sites within Seton as needed.  This is a PRN rotating position with weekend and night requirements.  Holidays required in coordination with other APP team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.

    Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

    • Required Credential(s):
      • Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing .  
      • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing
      • Acute Care Certification or Clinical Nurse Specialist with acute care training/educational component required.
      • Preferred Credential(s):
        • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). 
        • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration. 

          Education:

          • Diploma 
            • Master's degree of Nursing required

              Work Experience:

              • No accepting applications for new graduates
              • Experience in neurosurgery or spine is strongly preferred
              • Surgical first assisting experience preferred
