We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and engaging clinical leader to join the Luminis Health system and serve as the Chief / Lead APP (Physician Assistant / Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) for our new Cardiac Surgery program. The Lead APP will have a proven record of accomplishment in clinical leadership, and extensive experience building and developing surgical teams.

AAMC offers a wide range of quality heart services, from prevention and diagnosis of heart disease to interventional cardiology procedures and rehabilitation.

 

Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Chief of Cardiac Surgery, the Chief/Lead APP (Physician Assistant / Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) will perform all required clinical duties, including patient evaluation and management in the preoperative, postoperative, and outpatient settings as well as performing ICU bedside procedures (e.g. arterial line and central line insertion), endovascular vein harvesting, and first assisting cardiac surgical procedures (e.g. CABG, valve surgery, aorta surgery).  The Chief/Lead APP will also assist the Chief of Cardiac Surgery with administrative duties, such as quality assurance, staffing, clinical operations, and program growth. Duties include, and are not limited to:

  • Assists Chief of Cardiac Surgery in the development and adoption of evidence-based clinical protocols for the Cardiac Surgery Program.
  • Assists Chief of Cardiac Surgery in the development of performance measures and continuing education programs for all (APP’s) (Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner) within the Cardiac Surgery program. Also monitors the performance of all APP staff in adhering to standards of care delivery, professionalism, patient privacy and risk management.
  • Assists Chief of Cardiac Surgery with planning and staff recruitment, and interviews and screens all APP candidates. Ensures service is adequately staffed at all times. Monitors APP staff adherence to corporate policy and procedures. Ensures APP staff have appropriate orientation and training to perform to standards.
  • Leads the quality and patients satisfaction review process, incorporating feedback into improvement plans and associated quality forums. Uses quality data to enhance effectiveness of care delivery.
  • Collects data pertinent to the patient’s health and situation including interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status, and performs minor surgical procedures (such as vein harvesting).

    Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing as a Certified Registered Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant School. All applicants must have at least 6 years of experience working in a cardiothoracic surgery program. Supervisory or lead experience is highly recommended.
